The SCVAA is an intense, 40 hour, educational training program for victim advocates and victim service providers. Throughout the training program, participants are exposed to current, cutting-edge, practical knowledge and skill development regarding victimology and victim assistance. With a blend of national and state-specific training materials, topics such as victimology, trauma-related mental health problems, cultural issues, law and policy, and adult learning principles will address the needs of victim advocates of all fields including those in special settings and those working with special populations.
MUSC will provide undergraduate and graduate credit for students. This cost is NOT included in the academy tuition fee. The week long comprehensive, academically based course of instruction will include text readings with review questions, faculty presentations, experimental exercises, and mentorship opportunities.
Those seeking undergraduate course credit will complete pre- and post-tests to assess knowledge and skills gained including a follow up assessment via online, and anonymous surveys. The cost for this three hour, undergraduate level credit is $125, all inclusive.
Those seeking graduate course credit will be required to meet with the Academic Director during the week of the academy to agree upon a study topic. A 10-12 page paper on the approved topic will be submitted post-academy. The cost for this three hour, graduate level credit is $125, all inclusive.
Payment for course credit is due upon registration at the academy.
